Rebirth
Photography • March 31, 2021 by Lacy Wood, Introduction by Scott Marlin
This month marked the one-year anniversary of lockdown measures here in the Northeastern U.S. It’s a natural time for reflection, and I find myself taking a moment to consider who we’ve lost, what we’ve learned, and the many ways this pandemic has changed us all.
Yet, I can’t help but see hope on our horizon. I myself know more than a few people who have found small ways to protect the brightest burning parts of themselves despite the challenges this past year. I trust there are more folks out there, tending the fires of their passions, waiting for the right moment to reemerge.
It’s in this spirit that I’m excited to welcome Brooklyn-based photographer Lacy Wood to Flash Punk. Lacy’s new series “Rebirth” is a timely meditation on the places we’ve called home this past year, and the best versions of ourselves that we’ve endeavored to protect.
From the photographer:
“This past year we have spent more time at home than ever before. 2021 feels like a new chapter for us all. Our bedrooms and apartments have become our sanctuaries and safe space. We are living life under new rules and precautions, we have a new president, some people have new jobs, and we are all slowly making our way back onto our feet again day by day.
“My mission is to capture the strength and beauty of women in NYC in their dreamy sunlit apartments. I want to somehow bring women in NYC together (without actually physically being together). I feel like by taking photographs, it is a unique way we can remember this precarious moment in time.”
