I began to look for these moments in my photography, to recreate them when I could and bring my private visions of beauty to the outside world.
— Riccardo Sirica

With its warmth and candor, this naturalistic sitting with Amalia photographed by Riccardo Sirica concentrates so many of the elements of Riccardo’s work that fill me with awe and appreciation.

The series transports us to a space where grace and strength reign, but it’s a space tinged also with a sense of loss. This hauntingly beautiful effect is the hallmark of the Rome-based photographer, who has dedicated his art to the exploration of power in vulnerability through his expressive studies of indomitable women.

For the sitting with Amalia, Riccardo uses some of the last extant Fuji 3000b pull-apart instant film stock, sadly discontinued in 2013 -- speaking of beautiful loss. But you don’t have to know a thing about the legendary film to appreciate its contribution to that feeling of a magical moment long since past...

From Riccardo:

“There was a point in my life when I realized that moments of elegance and beauty were rarer, more precious, and more fleeting, in the real world than seemed fair. So I began to look for these moments in my photography, to recreate them when I could and bring my private visions of beauty to the outside world. Film has been the perfect medium in this pursuit because it has made it possible for me to focus entirely on the subject.”
