Don’t Stop the Party
Photography • Sept 16, 2020 by Justinas Rimeikis, Introduction by Scott Marlin
I first encountered this photo set while flipping through Flickr for mood board inspiration in 2019.
At the time I didn’t know Justinas Rimeikis as the freelance photographer based in Vilnius, Lithuania. I was only focused on finding images taken with flash on 35mm film cameras (a recurring obsession). I remember seeing this set’s cover image of model Skirmanté draped haphazardly across a flight of stairs, and I was immediately struck by the creativity at work in these images. I bookmarked the photo and let the images slip into my subconscious until by chance I stumbled across Justinas’ work a second time–this time on Instagram.
Fate had clearly intervened. I couldn’t help but reach out to Justinas and find out a little bit more about this incredible photo series, which also features Agnė Kulitaitė and Kęstutis Baltaduonis.
“This was a commercial shoot for Juicy Jules, and we were inspired to do a party theme based on the timing,” Justin tells us. “We were shooting this set for a winter collection so the team thought it would resonate well with winter festivities, such as New Year. The Juicy Jules brand also has a party/disco vibe which influenced the shoot.”
“The only thing we did not expect in planning the shoot was the heat inside the building. We shot this in late August, and the heat played into the end-of-the-night expression of the models.”
“Over time I’ve learned how important the team behind the shoot is, and I’m glad I had a chance to work with the same people on other projects. For this particular shoot, I also got to use a borrowed Yashica T4 for the first time. It made a really fun and casual addition to the digital shots we made.”
