And what’s keeping you from living a sensual life?
— Francesca McConnell

Flip through Francesca McConnell’s work, and you’ll see images that speak of honesty, vulnerability, playfulness, adventure, and camaraderie. The photographer, who divides her time between Denver and Barcelona, describes her approach as intimate portraiture, and her subjects range from still life, travel, boudoir, and candids. Warm-toned and personal, her portraits of women and couples have a rawness and sense of silence in tension, like a breath held in anticipation.

Francesca is an avid diarist, reflecting on words and images as an act of renewal and self creation. With this series, she shared a recent except from her journal:

“And what’s keeping you from living a sensual life for yourself? Savoring every flavor of your meals, standing up to dance when a good song comes on, basking in the sun of a lazy afternoon, wearing something soft to give your skin a treat… sensuality doesn’t require another person to witness it.”
